How Much Are Wyndham Points Worth?

You pass Wyndham hotels all the time — road-tripping, commuting to work, even driving to the store. Wyndham brands include La Quinta, Howard Johnson’s, Ramada, Super 8, the namesake Wyndham hotels, and many more.

The value you get for Wyndham points varies based on how you redeem them. Knowing the best ways to use Wyndham points can be the difference between getting over 1.5 cents per point and under 0.2 cents per point. Here’s what you need to know about valuing Wyndham points.

The value of Wyndham points when booking with Wyndham

We find that Wyndham points are typically worth 0.7 cents each toward hotel stays. Again, the exact value depends on the specific hotel and dates you book. Just know that if you’re getting less value than this, you’re not maximizing the value of your rewards.

To figure out your return when redeeming Wyndham points, use the following equation:

(Room rate – taxes and fees associated with your award night ) / number of points = value per point.

This will help you determine whether to book an award stay or save your points for a better value in the future.

For example, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Trademark Collection by Wyndham charges $115.63 per night, including taxes and a $56.63 resort fee. Alternatively, you could pay 30,000 points and the same $56.63 resort fee. This yields an unbelievably poor redemption value of 0.19 cents per point. The equation is: ($115.63 room rate – $56.63 resort fee) / 30,000 points = 0.19 cents per point.

Wyndham charges one of three flat rates for all of its base hotel rooms. You’ll pay one of the following rates per night:

  • 7,500 points
  • 15,000 points
  • 30,000 points

You’ve also got the option to split your bill with cash to use fewer points.

Wyndham is one of the few hotel chains that still abides by an award chart — and this one is extremely simple. No matter how high the cash price of a standard room, it will never be more than the above award tiers. That makes Wyndham a great option for locations and events that experience surge cash pricing (think sporting events, concerts, alpine hotels during ski season, etc.).

Take a look at the Club Wyndham Park City in early winter. The cash price is $430 after taxes and fees — but an award stay costs just 15,000 points — making your points worth 2.86 cents each ($430 cash price / 15,000 points = 2.86 cents). That’s an incredible deal!

The value of Wyndham points when transferring to a partner

First things first: With virtually zero exception, you shouldn’t transfer Wyndham points to airlines. Wyndham partners with nine airline programs, all of which offer a 5:1 conversion rate (5 Wyndham points = 1 airline mile). Partners include:

Because Wyndham points are worth 0.7 cents each, on average, you’ll trade 3.5 cents in value for a single airline mile. Miles are often worth less than half of this value, making Wyndham transfers a bad idea. Plus, converting your points into miles can take weeks.

However, if you desperately need a few thousand more airline miles to book your dream award flight, transferring some Wyndham points can be worthwhile. Just try not to make a habit of it.

What can you get with your Wyndham points?

With your Wyndham points, you can book anything from luxury hotels to modest pit stops during a road trip. Wyndham’s portfolio includes budget brands like Travelodge and Days Inn — as well as fancy ones like Registry Collection Hotels and Dolce Hotels and Resorts. That said, it’s primarily known for lower-quality properties.

One of the most valuable aspects of the Wyndham Rewards program is its strong footprint in small towns within Middle America where you often won’t find other hotel chains. It’s ideal for those who want to save money during road trips or while visiting family in “small town” USA.

To boot, Wyndham has a unique partnership with vacation rental platforms like Vacasa and Cottages.com. You can redeem points to rent homes, often at favorable rates. These options start at 15,000 per bedroom per night (in other words, a two-bedroom house would cost at least 30,000 points per night).

The value of Wyndham points when redeeming for Amazon.com purchases, statement credits, or gift cards

Through Wyndham’s online shop, it’s possible to trade your points for things unrelated to travel. However, it’s almost always a bad idea because points are worth considerably less for non-hotel redemptions.

The exact value you’ll receive for your rewards varies, but expect to get no greater than 0.37 cents per point. For example:

  • A $100 Buffalo Wild Wings gift card costs 27,000 points (0.37 cents per point)
  • A $300 Google Pixel Watch 3 costs around 112,000 points (0.26 cents per point)

You can’t cash out your points for a statement credit or a check — but you can buy Amazon gift cards with them, which can be as good as cash if you shop online. But again, the value per point is abysmal. Stick to hotel awards with your points.

The best use of your Wyndham points

  • Hotel stays during popular events
  • Accommodation in small towns where you won’t often find other hotel chains
  • Partner booking sites such as Vacasa

The worst use of your Wyndham points

  • Transferring to airline partners
  • Redeeming for merchandise
  • Redeeming for gift cards

So whether you’re eyeing a weekend at a mid-tier hotel or a one-night splurge at a luxury beach resort, you can reserve it with a stash of points this high.

How much are 75,000 Wyndham points worth?

75,000 Wyndham points are worth around $525 in hotel stays. You could use these points to book 10 nights at a low-tier hotel or five nights at a mid-tier hotel. You could even book a couple of nights at one of Wyndham’s most impressive properties, such as the Wyndham Grand Algarve in Portugal. Nights often sell for over $500, but award nights cost just 30,000 points.

How much are 100,000 Wyndham points worth?

How many Wyndham points does it take for a free flight?

Award flight prices vary based on the airline, travel dates, and route. Generally speaking, you’ll need at least 4,500 miles to book a short-haul flight with select airlines. How many Wyndham points to fly business class to Europe?

Do Wyndham points expire?

Wyndham points expire after four years. They may expire earlier if your account is inactive for 18 months.

Summary

Wyndham Rewards points aren’t ideal for those with aspirations of luxe travel. Wyndham specializes in less fancy hotels. But no matter your travel style, Wyndham points can play a powerful role in your award travel strategy — thanks to its presence in small towns where few other hotel chains exist.
